This is a more-or-less complete list of Singing Club events since September 2013. It preserves a record of the history of our club, and gives a good idea of the sort of events we take part in. Click on each drop-down arrow to see the events list for each year.

2026
Saturday 24th January: Wassailing at Chepstow Castle orchard (3pm), singing for the Mari Lwyd at the Castle gates (4pm), a communal sing-a-long at Chepstow Bandstand (4.45pm), followed by another Mari Lwyd at Chepstow Museum, Bridge St (5.15pm).
Sunday 1st March: Chepstow Castle St David’s Day. SC will be at the Great Hall in the castle singing Welsh songs during the early afternoon. SC members gather at 1.30 at the castle.
Tuesday 31st March: MENCAP Pop-up Cafe, Bridge St, Chepstow. Singing at 10.30am.
Saturday 25th April: Joint concert with Caldicot Male Voice Choir. St Mary’s Priory Church, Chepstow. Benefit concert for SARA.

Saturday January 11th 2025: Fundraiser for SARA (The Severn Area Rescue Association) at the Drill Hall, Chepstow Singing Club were guests of Caldicot Male Voice Choir.
Saturday 18th January: Chepstow Wassail and Mari Lwyd. 3pm Wassail ceremony in Dell Orchard, 4pm meet at Castle Gate for Pwnco, 4.45 meet at door of Chepstow Museum (Bridge St) for Pwnco.
Saturday 1st March, 11am-12 noon: singing to celebrate St David’s Day at the palmer Centre, Cormeilles Square.
Tuesday 4th March, 7.30pm, Sessions house, Usk: An informal St David’s Day concert and sing-a-long with Usk Singing Club.
Monday 17th March, 11.00am, Singing at Caldicot Library at the launch of the new Memory Box service. The library service will be highlighting support and information for people living with dementia.
Saturday 29th March: Voices for the Wye: Concert at Chepstow Drill Hall with Carmina, in support of Gwent Wildlife Trust and the campaign to clean up River Wye. Includes a short play ‘Doreen’s Big Catch’ about the biggest ever Salmon caught in the Wye (in 1923), and an art display.
Wednesday 2nd April, St Tewdric’s Church , Mathern 7.30pm – Duke’s Yard ‘Spring Concert’ celebrating St Tewdric’s Day.
Tuesday 15th April 2025 (morning): Singing at MENCAP pop-up cafe, Old Board School, Bridge St Chepstow. 10.30am. Thursday 8th May: VE Day Celebrations Usk Sessions House, 8pm. A few of our own songs interspersed with a sing-a-long. At 9.30 the nation will sing ‘I Vow to Thee my Country’.
Saturday 10th May: VE Day ‘Street Party’ at Chepstow Drill Hall, 2 – 4pm, all SCs. Admission free, tea and cakes available.

Saturday 20th September: Karl Daymond Bursary Concert St Mary’s Priory, 7.00pm. With the Singing Club and Chepstow Male Voice Choir, also performances by the Chepstow Chatelaines, VB Samba, and Clara Greening a soloist from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama who is a recipient of the bursary.

2021 – 22: A review of the year we returned from ‘lockdown’
2021 – 22: How great are you!
Thank you for a great year of singing.
It always surprises me looking back at what we have done. This academic year however, I think we should be especially proud of ourselves. Considering you had been singing on Zoom for nearly two years, when we came back face to face last September you sounded amazing. Even with masks on it was fabulous!!
It was just great to be back singing together in real life. Straight back to it we got involved in a few crazy days singing Christmas Carols. Outdoors in high winds at the Board School for Mencap was a great deal of fun! We also sang at Toast and Taurus Crafts. Followed by two fabulous Charity Christmas Concerts one at Usk Sessions House for the Mayor’s Charities and one at the Board School for Chepstow Mencap. What a come back!!
The different groups of The Singing Club have been involved in singing events together and separately. Wassailing and celebrating Burns night in January. Usk SC celebrated St David’s Day in March. The Singing Club were very pleased to be able to ‘Sing for Ukraine’ at St Arvan’s in March. Then there was the Queen’s Jubilee at Usk and Chepstow in June. It was marvellous the Usk Choral Festival was able to go ahead, ‘live’ again at last in July. Such a wonderful experience for The Singing Club to sing at St Mary’s in Usk. We were so lucky that the sun was shining on us for the Chepstow Arts Festival in July.
Our Summer Concert at Mathern Church raised over £1,000. In August we were delighted to perform at a book reading for member Dr Susan Smith.
We’ve had fun singing our old songs and we also learned a number of new songs. So all in all, I think we had a fantastic year!
